O-1 Visa

An O visa is a non-immigrant visa category in the United States for individuals with extraordinary ability or achievement in their field.

It is typically issued to people who have demonstrated extraordinary ability in the sciences, arts, education, business, or athletics, or who have a demonstrated record of extraordinary achievement in the motion picture or television industry.

There are different types of O visas:

(1) O-1A Visa: For individuals with an extraordinary ability in the sciences, education, business, or athletics.

(2) O-1B Visa: For individuals with an extraordinary ability in the arts or extraordinary achievement in the motion picture or television industry.

(3) O-2 Visa: For individuals who will accompany an O-1 visa holder to assist in a specific event or performance. For O-1A visa holders, the O-2 applicant's assistance must be an integral part of the O-1A visa holder's activity. For O-1B visa holders, the O-2 applicant must have critical skills and experience with the O-1B visa holder that are not of a general nature and which cannot be performed by others.

(4) O-3 Visa: For the spouse or children of O-1 and O-2 visa holders.

To qualify for an O-1 visa, applicants must provide evidence of their extraordinary ability, such as major awards, membership in associations requiring outstanding achievements, published material about the applicant, original scientific, scholarly, or business-related contributions, authorship of scholarly articles, and other comparable evidence. The visa is employer-specific and requires a job offer from a U.S. employer.
