The validity period of a permanent Green Card is 10 years.

 

If you do not obtain U.S. citizenship within this period, you must renew your Green Card.

 

You can apply for Green Card renewal starting 6 months before its expiration date.

 

As of 2024, the processing time for Green Card renewal varies widely, ranging from as short as one week to as long as two and a half years. 

 

For 90% of applications, the renewal process is completed within 6 months. However, around 10% of applications take over a year without any specific reason.
