For J-1 Intern or Trainee Visa Holders

J-1 Intern

The J-1 Intern category is intended for foreign students or recent graduates who are currently pursuing or have completed a degree program outside of the United States. The internship must be directly related to the participant's academic major or career goals. Participants in the J-1 Intern category can stay in the U.S. for up to 12 months.

J-1 Trainee

This category targets individuals who have obtained a degree or professional certificate from a foreign university or have at least one year of work experience in their field outside the U.S.

The training program should provide valuable education and practical experience directly related to the participant's occupational field or professional development. Participants in the J-1 Trainee category can stay in the U.S. for up to 18 months, except for those in the hospitality and tourism industries, who can stay for a maximum of 12 months.

In addition to meeting specific eligibility requirements for the J-1 Intern or Trainee categories, J-1 visa applicants must demonstrate English proficiency, have sufficient funds to cover living expenses in the U.S., and prove their intent to return to their home country upon completion of the program.

At our Hope Law Group, we do not handle J-1 visa processing, but we do assist J-1 visa holders with employment-based immigration or non-immigrant visa applications (Change of Status).
